ITALIAN TRADE COMMISSION PREVIEWS 'COLUMBUS MENU' AT 'PIAZZA ITALIA';
 FIVE NEW YORK 'STAR' CHEFS JOIN IN CELEBRATION
 NEW YORK, Sept. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Four hundred notables from the world of food and wine will come together on Thursday, Oct. 1 to celebrate the undeniable culinary impact of Columbus' voyage to the Americas on the world's cuisine at the inaugural dinner of the 'Columbus Menu," hosted by Istituto Italiano per il Commercio Estero/Italian Trade Commission at "Piazza ltalia."
 Celebrated New York chefs Larry Forgione of American Place, Anne Rosenzweig of Arcadia, Charles Palmer of Aureole, Andrew D'Amico of Sign of The Dove, Seppi Renggli of Sea Grill and Theo Schoengger of San Domenico will don their toques for this gala tribute. Each will prepare a selection of savory dishes combining foods introduced to Europe after Columbus' voyage, including tomatoes, potatoes, cacao, turkey, corn, peppers, beans, squashes, pumpkins, and vanilla, with at least one traditionally Italian product, such as extra-virgin olive oil, pasta, cheese, Parma ham, or balsamic vinegar.
 Noted New York restaurateur Tony May, proprietor of San Domenico New York, manages the daily operation of Caffe Italia inside Piazza Italia, serving the "Columbus Menu" daily and worked together with the Italian Trade Commission in arranging the chefs for "Columbus Menu."
 Americans nationwide will be able to enjoy "Columbus Menu' from Oct. 3 to 12, when hundreds of restaurants will feature a selection of culinary preparations that owe their aromas, flavors and appearances to ingredients that originated in the Americas. At least 5 million consumers are expected join in this gastronomic discovery, which will culminate with a gala dinner on the 12th at each participating dining establishment.
 "Columbus Menu" will also supply the theme for promotions being held in an estimated 1,000 gourmet food stores and supermarkets around the United States throughout the rest of the year.
