IT boss killed himself at top boys' school.

A teaching assistant, who hanged himself at a top boys' school, had been reported missing by his family just hours before he was found dead, an inquest heard yesterday.

Andrew Craythorn was discovered lying on the floor of the main hall at King's Norton Boys Comprehensive School in south Birmingham on September 18 last year.

The IT manager had tied a rope to a first-floor balcony and clambered over the balustrade, but the rope snapped.

The hearing at Birmingham Coroner's Court was told that Mr Craythorn, who was responsible for the school's website, had excessive levels of an anti-depressant drug and paracetamol in his system. The school worker, from Sparrey Drive, Stirchley, Birmingham, was also found with an alcohol level which would have put him over the legal drink-drive limit.

But pathologist Dr Adrian Yeung said he believed the levels of drugs and alcohol would have had no direct bearing on his death.

Detective Sergeant John Squires told the court he discovered messages on white boards in his handwriting after discovering the body.

Details of the messages were not divulged in open court. Birmingham Coroner Aidan Cotter said: 'The notes that Andrew left, to my mind, have a clear indication that he did not expect to be there when they were read but expected people to be told about them rather than come and see them.'

He recorded that Mr Craythorn took his own life while suffering from depression
