IT WASN'T EASY TELLING MY MUM I WAS GOING TO BE A LESBIAN ON TV - ' I WON'T GET MARRIED UNTIL I'M AT LEAST 30. I KNOW WHAT I WANT AND I WON'T LET BOYS GET IN THE WAY; Jenna-Louise Coleman loves life as Emmerdale bad girl Jasmine the interview.

Byline: By LAURA DAVIDSON

She's the teenage tearaway who rocked Emmerdale after starting a lesbian affair with her best friend.

Now pig-tailed rebel Jasmine Thomas is about to set tongues wagging in the Woolpack again - by jumping in the sack with her lover Debbie Dingle's DAD, bad boy Cain.

If Jasmine's uncle, clean-living Rev Ashley Thomas, finds out about her bed-hopping antics, there will surely be hell to pay. So just what would the vicar make of it all?

"I don't think he'd be very pleased," says Jenna-Louise Coleman, who plays Jasmine.

"Jasmine would probably be flung out on her ear if he caught wind of what she'd been up to.

"Just think of how embarrassing it would be for him with his wholesome image.

"Thankfully, Jasmine's got Ashley's new wife Laurel to turn to. She's so understanding and manages to keep the whole thing a secret from Ashley... for now.

"Laurel's like a mother figure to Jasmine, which is good, because she really needs someone to turn to just now. Above everything, I just think Jasmine is really confused about her feelings."

Off-screen, Jenna, 19, admits her own love life isn't anywhere near as colourful as Jasmine's.

She's been dating former Emmerdale co-star Karl Davies, 23, who played bad boy Robert Sugden for eight months.

The pair met on set but Jenna says: "We didn't have any scenes together and I'm glad about that because it might have been awkward.

"We get on really well. Karl lives in Leeds like me, so we try to co-ordinate our time off.

"We just do normal stuff like going out to dinner and going to the cinema. I'm very boring compared to Jasmine.

"I'm amazed at all the fuss since people found out I was dating him. People have even asked if we'll be getting married! It's crazy, I'm only 19.

"I don't want to get married until I'm at least 30. I know what I want and I'm not going to let boys get in the way."

Originally from Blackpool, Jenna chose not to follow her brother Ben, 22, into the family shop-fitting business owned by parents Karen and Keith.

She says she's had great support from her family - despite worrying about breaking her racy storylines to them. She joked: "I suppose a lot of people would be worried about telling their mum that they were going to be seen on TV as a lesbian then be wooed by their best friend's dad. But mum was fantastic. She's just really pleased that I'm involved in such a big storyline."

Since joining Emmerdale last summer, Jenna has become great pals with co-star Charley Webb - who plays Debbie - and Jenna reckons their friendship has helped them get past any awkward moments.

She added: "When we found out we'd have to do these scenes we just laughed about it.

"We were a bit nervous at first but mainly we've been concentrating on getting the scenes right. There's no embarrassment as we're good pals."

Since Cain (Jeff Hordley) found out about Debbie and Jasmine's trysts, it hasn't taken him long to hatch a plan to split them up.

Still furious with schoolgirl mum Debbie for having her baby adopted, he seizes the opportunity to get his revenge - by stealing her girlfriend.

Jenna said: "It's a pretty bizarre situation. I can't imagine there are many teenagers being propositioned by the father of their lesbian lover. But that's what's so great about the storyline - you can't guess what's going to happen next."

The action really hots up this week with Cain making a major play for Jasmine. At first she ignores the serial philanderer's advances but she's soon taken in.

Jenna added: "Jasmine enjoys the attention but she hates herself as she knows she shouldn't.

"She can't help but be drawn to Cain. There's always something tempting about what you shouldn't have and he is the kind of bloke that your mother would always warn you against.

"I feel a bit sorry for her, though. She thinks she knows what she's doing and that she can handle Cain but she can't. It leads to her having to tell Debbie all kinds of lies and she ends up in more trouble than she can handle."

Jenna's Emmerdale role is her first acting job and she says it fulfils a dream she's had since she was a little girl.

She explained: "I've always wanted to act and it was my plan to go to drama school after finishing my A Levels but the audition for Emmerdale came along, I went for it and I got the job. It was a big decision but I put drama school on the back burner to join the show. I might go back at some point but for now I just thank my lucky stars I've started off in this industry with such a fantastic break."

But there is one down-side to being in the show - Jenna will no longer have time to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe, something she's enjoyed for the past few years.

"It's a real shame," she said. "But I'm still planning to get up to Edinburgh at some point during the Fringe. I've got friends at university there and I'm sure they'll let me sleep on the floor. I'd hate to miss out on it completely, there's such a great atmosphere during the festival."

Jenna had to move to Leeds to be near the Emmerdale set and shares a flat with co-star Julia Mallam, who plays down-on-her-luck single mum Dawn Woods.

The city has become like a mini-Emmerdale set with so many of the cast members living there. Charley Webb and Adele Silva, who plays Kelly, live together, and Hayley Tamaddon (Delilah), Kerry Stacey (Toni) and Roxanne Pallett (Jo) all have flats close by.

Jenna said: "It's so handy that we all live close together. There's loads of girls in the show just now and we all share a dressing room. It's like getting ready for one big girly night out when we're getting ready for filming. We're all the same age range and we hook up all the time.

"I'd be happy to stay in Emmerdale for as long as they'll have me. I've made such good friends on the show and I'm loving every minute. It's like I've found a second family."
