IT'S FX -- THE NEW 24-HOUR CABLE SERVICE FROM FOX INC. TO LAUNCH MARCH 1, 1994; SIX NEW MSOs ON BOARD

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire/ -- FX is the name of the new Fox Inc. basic cable network scheduled to formally launch on March 1, 1994, announced FX Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Anne Sweeney at a press conference today at Off Vine Restaurant in Hollywood.
FX will be the first general entertainment network to interact with its audience, launching with a live "breakfast show," which will be produced by Fox Circle Productions. There will be on-air personalities, selected from across the country, with whom viewers can connect. They will read viewer faxes, talk about what's happening in the world today as well as what's going to be on television in the next hour. FX will be its own entity, with its own identity, featuring a mix of live and original programming as well as the best of the 20th Century Fox film and television libraries.
"FX extends the Fox Inc. entertainment franchise into a new arena. It is a signal of how this company intends to redefine general entertainment on cable," stated Sweeney.
"We're responding to the audience, and what they're telling us is, that in this age of proliferating networks, there's no one cable channel that provides them with a variety of programming that speaks to them," said Sweeney. "Our goal is to create a channel that talks to the audience ... and equally important listens, much in the same way that talk radio enjoys an intimate rapport and sense of immediacy with its listeners.
"Our goal is to create a channel that is always willing to try something new and that doesn't always rely on established television conventions," she added.
Thus far, FX has reached agreements with 13 MSOs, the six announced today, which include Newhouse, Adelphia, TKR, Triax, Bresnan and Booth- America as well as the previously announced TCI, Cox Cable Communications Inc., Times Mirror Cable Television, Viacom Cable, TeleCable Corp., InterMedia and Prime Cable. The current subscriber total is approximately 19 million, covering close to 30 percent of all U.S. cable households.
As part of the Fox Inc. family, FX will benefit from the Fox production companies, the strong television and feature library and the numerous cross-promotion opportunities.
