IT'S ASSAULT & VINEGAR.. CAFE.

Byline: GEOFFREY LAKEMAN

A FORMER cafe owner has admitted spraying undiluted vinegar in seven customers' faces.

Mahbubur Rhaman, 40, was caught on CCTV attacking five men and two women at his late-opening Mr Egg cafe.

The assault left 13 people hurt, with two victims in excruciating pain and unable to open their eyes. The vinegar essence would normally be diluted with 16 parts water.

Mr Egg in Birmingham had been crowned Britain's Greatest Greasy Spoon in 2003 and best place for a fry-up in 2004.

Rhaman, from Hall Green, Birmingham, originally denied two wounding and five assault charges, but has now pleaded guilty with another defendant, 17, who cannot be named. Mr Egg closed down after the November attack.

Judge Murray Creed granted conditional bail and adjourned sentence at the city's crown court until February.
