After extra time, 90mins: 2-2

MADJID BOUGHERRA was the last-gasp hero as Algeria scraped into the semi-finals in Cabinda.

Star-studded Ivory Coast were seconds from going through when the Rangers defender's header forced extra time.

Then Blackpool's Hameur Bouazza netted a dramatic winner as the tournament favourites were sent tumbling.

It was a dramatic turnaround for the Algerians who had started so nervously, falling behind after just four minutes. Yaya Toure's shot was deflected into the path of Chelsea's Salomon Kalou who expertly beat Faouzi Chaouchi at the near post.

Didier Drogba had a penalty appeal turned down when the ref ruled Rafik Halliche's sliding challenge a fair one.

The Algerians eventually began to settle and Boubacar Barry almost gifted them a goal when his clearance was charged down by Abdelkader Ghezzal but the ball rebounded wide.

There were occasional tussles between Drogba and Bougherra but the Algerians took charge and levelled in the 40th minute.

A long ball from AntarYahia bounced on the edge of the box and Karim Matmour forced his way between two defenders and hammered in a shot that went in off the upright. After the break Matmour missed a great chance when he blazed over from just inside the box after receiving a lovely pass over the top from Mourad Meghni.

In 68 minutes, Hibs' Sol Bamba was dispossessed by Matmour on the edge of the box but the Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder's shot was superbly saved by Barry.

Yaya Toure forced a full-length stop from Chaouchi before sub Kader Keita looked to have won it with a minute to go.

The Galatasaray midfielder smashed in a 25-yard screamer that went in off the woodwork - but Algeria refused to give in.

A cross from the left found Bougherra and the Ibrox ace's powerful header beat the keeper.

Ivory Coast were shell-shocked and three minutes into extra time Bouazza, who was just on the park, leaped high to nod in Ziani's cross from the left.

Drogba's fierce 18-yard shot was blocked and Bamba scrambled an effort wide from close range.

Kolo Toure netted late on but was offside so Bougherra's return to Ibrox will be further delayed.
