ISOLYSER COMPANY INTRODUCES PATENTED OREX LINE OF PRODUCTS

ATLANTA, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Isolyser Company, Inc., of Norcross, Ga., announced the introduction of its OREX(TM) line of hot water soluble disposable products for patient care and medical staff protection.
Isolyser is a leader in the development of systems for the management and disposal of infectious and hazardous waste. The company emphasized that by using its OREX hot water soluble disposable products that perform as regular disposables when in use, the user will have the safety and convenience to which they are accustomed and a safer and more economical method to dispose of used garments or utensils.
Patient, staff and public exposure to potentially infectious medical waste can be greatly reduced with proper use and disposal of OREX products. Products made from OREX polymers can be safely and inexpensively removed from the solid waste stream, eliminating incineration and landfilling requirements. Such diverse items as drapes, towels, covers, overwraps, gowns, head covers, face masks, shoe coverings, sponges, dressings, tapes, underpads, diapers, wash cloths, sheets, pillow covers, napkins, utensils and packaging has been composed of OREX fibers and sheet materials. OREX products are so revolutionary that Isolyser has been awarded U.S. Patent Nos. 5,181,967, 5,181,966 and 5,207,837(a).
OREX fiber and sheet materials are soluble in hot aqueous media. This "hot water solubility" provides for the safe, antiseptic disposal of garments, utensils and packaging. Thus, after use, soiled articles composed of OREX fibers and sheet materials can be conveniently deposited into a suitable washing machine. The used articles are solubilized and disinfected and the resulting aqueous solution can then be introduced as a non-hazardous waste into the municipal waste sewer system. Extensive testing has demonstrated that OREX polymers are completely and safely decomposed in properly functioning waste water treatment systems. The residual sludge is suitable for agriculture applications and soil enrichment.
 (a) Additional patent applications are currently pending before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office as well as in a number of foreign countries.
