ISIS Multimedia Net GmbH Selects Cascade ATM and Frame Relay Switches for Backbone Network.

WESTFORD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 1996-- Cascade Communications Corp. (NASDAQ:CSCC) today announced that the CBX 500 ATM (formerly the Cascade 500) and the B-STDX 9000 Frame Relay Multiservice Wide Area Network (WAN) Switches have been selected by ISIS Net GmbH to provide video over ATM and data over Frame Relay service in the Dusseldorf area in Germany.

The initial phase of the network implementation consists of 6 CBX 500 ATM and 20 B-STDX Frame Relay switches.

With the installation of Cascade's CBX 500 and the B-STDX 9000 switches, ISIS can now offer their customers a high performing, reliable service with a cost effective price per port. The CBX 500 switches will be deployed as the ATM backbone to deliver advanced ATM functions and port densities delivering advanced ATM routing and Quality of Service (QoS) for user traffic. The B-STDX 9000s provide Frame Relay access over leased lines and ISDN. In addition, they provide Frame to ATM Interworking, a key application in the gradual migration to a complete ATM WAN. ISIS considered it critical to offer their customers a manageable and interoperable solution, and the Cascade products and network management software, CascadeView, met these requirements.

ISIS Net GmbH has been active in Dusseldorf since 1994 by providing a telecommunications network to the local area. ISIS has found that the requirement for electronic communications has increased in line with the requirement for improved performance from data lines -- speech, data and multi-data increasingly require high- performance glass fibre networks with large transmission bandwidth at reasonable prices.

ISIS has constructed a glass fibre network. ISIS is supplying customers in various branches with numerous telecommunications services. "It is of the utmost importance for ISIS to continue and maintain our competitive advantage, offered by the cooperation with Cascade," said Mr. Schafers, Senior Manager, ISIS.

"As the German telecommunications market prepares for the change in its regulatory environment, regional full service suppliers such as ISIS are looking to offer their customers advanced levels of tailor-made services. Cascade has given ISIS these capabilities," said Kurt Trampedach, Vice President of International Sales at Cascade Communications Corp. "At a time when customer demands for data, voice and multimedia applications are growing, the integration of the Cascade CBX 500 and the B-STDX switches provide reliable, end-to-end QoS."

Active in Dusseldorf as an urban network operator, in the last few years ISIS has set up a modern glass-fibre network for innovative telecommunications services. The company offers a wide range of telecommunications services such as ISDN, data transmission, LAN and multimedia applications and is primarily aimed at business customers and the self-employed. Beginning in 1998, it will also be aimed at private customers within the Dusseldorf area.
