ISG SIGNS LICENSING AGREEMENTS FOR IMAGING APPLICATIONS PLATFORM
TORONTO, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- ISG Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ISGTF) (ISG) today announced it has expanded its relationship with Philips Medical Systems of the Netherlands, and signed a licensing agreement with NORAN Instruments, Inc., of Madison, Wis., involving ISG's imaging applications platform (IAP).
IAP, developed by ISG, provides key competitive advantages to companies which develop imaging applications by drastically reducing development cost and shortening time-to-market of their products. It includes many high-quality imaging algorithms for which ISG has been recognized in the past. IAP's inherent capabilities of networking and of being workstation hardware independent makes it, and any applications developed on it, ideally positioned for the future.
ISG has been supplying its Gyroview workstation to Philips for the past three years for incorporation into Philips' magnetic resonance imagers (MRI) products. Under the expanded relationship, IAP is intended to be included in the Gyroview workstation as well as in extensions to this product.
Under the licensing agreement with NORAN, the company will be using IAP as the basis for its confocal microscope platform. This scientific workstation uses a scanner to create digital slice images of cells for analysis.
"These agreements with Philips and NORAN are further evidence of the reputation ISG is gaining in the international scientific and medical communities for the quality of our proprietary technology. We will continue to pursue other such opportunities with original equipment manufacturers (OEM) where incorporation of our technology under license can enhance the capabilities of their systems," said Michael Greenberg, M.D., president and chief executive officer, ISG.
ISG Technologies Inc., a Canadian company, designs, manufactures, services, and markets visual data processing technology for the medical imaging market. The technology consists of proprietary software and parallel-processing accelerator hardware. Radiologists and surgeons use these systems to display, manipulate, and analyze two- and three- dimensional images of actual patient anatomy. The company won the 1991 Canada Export Award and is a finalist in this year's Canada Awards for Business Excellence. ISG's common shares are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (Symbol: ISO) and New York's NASDAQ (Symbol: ISGTF).
