 IRT NAMES SOGNEFEST PRESIDENT AND CEO
 SAN DIEGO, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- IRT Corp. (AMEX: IX) announced


today that Peter W. Sognefest has been appointed president and chief executive officer of the corporation. The corporation has also named Sognefest to its board of directors, filling an existing vacancy.
 Sognefest, 50, was most recently chairman of the board of Digital Appliance Controls Inc., an Elgin, Ill.-based, wholly owned subsidiary of Emerson Electric Co. A founder of the company in 1984, Sognefest served as its chief executive officer until it was acquired by Emerson Electric in July 1991.
 Prior to that, he was vice president and director of the Industrial Electronics Unit of Motorola Inc. He joined Motorola as a product and manufacturing manager in 1977, after serving in various management roles during 10 years at Essex Group, United Technologies Inc. in Pittsburgh. His last position with Essex Group was general manager of Semiconductor Operations.
 Sognefest also serves as a director of Two Six Inc., a laser optics manufacturing firm, and Humana Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Ill.
 After graduating from the University of Illinois with both bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering, Sognefest managed a fellowship in vehicular systems research at Mellon Institute and earned the title of senior fellow. He is a member and past-president of the alumni board of the University of Illinois' department of electrical engineering and has received its distinguished alumni award for professional achievement.
 In making the announcement, IRT Chairman Clifford V. Brokaw, III, said, "We are tremendously pleased that Peter Sognefest has agreed to join our company. We welcome his experience and considerable talents and believe his guidance will lead IRT to continued growth in the X-ray technology and radiation services businesses."
 Headquartered in San Diego, IRT Corporation is a major supplier of industrial real-time X-ray systems, with more than 500 systems installed, and is the technology leader in automated X-ray inspection systems with computerized defect recognition capability. The company develops and manufactures inspection and process monitoring systems, including integrated systems for aerospace, automotive, electronics and ordnance applications. IRT also operates a commercial radiation processing facility that provides high-energy electron-beam processing for many commercial applications. The company's newest line of business is the SECURE(TM) 1000, a security scanning system used to detect concealed metallic and nonmetallic objects on individuals.
