IRS SAYS 'FILE EARLY'

DALLAS, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The IRS is encouraging taxpayers to "file early" again this year, an IRS spokesperson said today.
Early filers usually receive their refund checks much sooner than those who wait. Without the pressure of last-minute filing, taxpayers make fewer errors and avoid extra correspondence with the IRS. This leads to faster refund processing.
Electronic filing of federal tax returns is an option used by more people each year. Approximately 11 million Americans filed electronically last year.
Once the IRS has accepted the electronic tax return, the refund will be issued in three weeks. If the refund is elected to be deposited directly into a bank account, money will be received even sooner.
This year, taxpayers can take advantage of another program designed to speed filing and cut down on errors. 1040-PC allows taxpayers with access to a personal computer to file a single page report with just the numerical entries from the tax form. The IRS is working with developers of computer tax preparation software to make this option widely available. Standard computers and printers will produce the correct 1040-PC format.
