IRS RELEASES PROPOSED TRANSFER PRICING REGULATIONS

PRICE WATERHOUSE EXPECTS REGS TO EASE TENSION BETWEEN U.S. & JAPANESE
WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Internal Revenue Service has just released proposed regulations on Transfer Pricing. Long awaited by corporate America and foreign multinational companies, these proposed regulations should help ease current tensions between the United States and its Japanese and European trading partners, by clarifying intercompany pricing requirements.
In essence, the regulations will help companies to establish prices that are acceptable to the IRS for goods and services they sell to related companies in their corporate families. This will allow taxpayers to file U.S. tax returns with more certainty. Particular guidance is given for the pricing of intangibles such as research, marketing and management fees. These subjects have generated considerable controversy among taxing authorities and private sector companies.
