IRS CONFIRMS AWARD OF HUGE COMPUTER DEAL TO AT&T/PYRAMID
Contract Has Potential of $100s of Millions to Pyramid
SAN JOSE, Calif., March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Pyramid Technology Corp. (NASDAQ: PYRD) today announced that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has confirmed the award of the $1.4 billion Treasury Multiuser Acquisition Contract (TMAC) to AT&T (NYSE: T). Pyramid is the principal subcontractor to AT&T, for supplying high-performance, RISC- based computer systems. The contract had been originally awarded in July 1991, but was subsequently protested. The award was returned to the IRS for additional analysis and reconsideration.
According to the terms of TMAC, AT&T will provided the IRS with systems comprised of multiple workstations networked to high- performance servers -- including terminals, peripherals, local area networks, software and support services such as systems integration, user training and maintenance. Pyramid will supply up to 3,200 high- performance servers, which have a potential value to the company of between $200 million to $300 million over the five year life of the contract. This is approximately the same number of systems the company has shipped in its 10 year history.
"We are ecstatic that the award has been confirmed by the IRS," said Richard H. Lussier, president, CEO and chairman of Pyramid. "The award is an affirmation of the strength of our products and market focus, and a credit to the quality of our people." Company background
