IRISH MAN OF THE PEOPLE : Road deaths.

Byline: Stephen Maguire

I'VE no answers only sympathy for the families of the five young people killed in last weekend's tragic car crash in Co Donegal.

I've listened all week to various proposals which might help cut down the number of people dying on our roads.

Slower cars, more gardai, curfews and better roads are some of the many ideas.

But the only thing which may eventually reduce the numbers of people being killed on our roads is our attitude to driving.

This must be the only country in the world where you don't need to pass a test to drive to your heart's content.

And even if you do fail you can drive home safe in the knowledge that you're not a competent driver.
