IRISH DAILY MIRROR COMMENT: McDowell's true colours.

MICHAEL McDowell yesterday showed his contempt for the majority of Irish people who struggle every day to make ends meet.

The Justice Minister revealed his true colours when he told the Economist magazine that social and economic inequality is an inevitable part of what Ireland has become.

He added that he had no regrets for the way the gap between rich and poor had rapidly grown during the PD- Fianna Fail reign of the Tiger Years.

His view of Ireland is one which very few people share - yet it is a philosophy that has run this country since 1997.

McDowell - like his Progressive Democrat colleagues - appears to believe there is no such thing as society, much like Margaret Thatcher.

The PD view is simple - the pursuit of wealth at all costs.

So, its policies reward big businesses and the well-off, while trampling on the needs of society's weakest.

The ultra individualistic PD mantra goes: To hell with those who can't look after themselves, it's their own fault.

However, the shameless pursuit of money leaves behind many casualties.

The PD-Fianna Fail management of our Celtic Tiger made millionaires of a few and paupers of the majority.

And McDowell, who's wrapped up in building a luxury holiday home on the banks of the Shannon, doesn't give a damn.

There is only one consolation, we still live in a democracy and have the power of our vote.
