IRI buys alcohol-data firm.

Information Resources, Inc. has acquired Secant, Inc., a consultancy and information provider with a portfolio of data acquisition, transformation and reporting applications focused on the hard-to-measure segments of the alcoholic beverage marketplace.

The acquisition is in keeping with IRI's goal of providing beer, wine and spirits manufacturers and retailers with broad expertise in the alcoholic beverage domain, supported with a comprehensive, end-to-end view of the marketplace using integrated shipment, depletion and retail movement information for both on- and off-premise channels.

"To effectively compete, beverage alcohol companies require a complete information picture that can only be created by integrating multiple sources of data and insight interpreted by unique domain expertise," says Scott W. Klein, IRI president and CEO. Secant principals Elena Amboyan and Anne Carlson have been named senior vice presidents and have joined the beer, wine and spirits vertical practice at Chicago-based IRI.

IRI also announced that Andrew A. Salzman has joined the company as executive vice president and global chief marketing officer, responsible for global marketing and innovation. Salzman most recently led corporate marketing at Siebel Systems.
