IRELAND SOCIETY TO BLAME.

RELIGIOUS orders incredibly claimed the whole of society should shoulder the blame for clerical sex abuse yesterday.

Director General of the Conference of Religious of Ireland [CORI], Sr Marianne O'Connor, said religious institutions were not the only ones in the wrong.

She added: "I am not excusing [the abuse] but there is a wider picture here with regard to the whole of society.

"We all got it wrong and we all need to look at it."

CORI came in for huge criticism on Monday for refusing to renegotiate the compensation deal which limited all the religious orders' liability to EUR128million.
