IRAQ,TURKEY : Calik to build Qayyara gas power plant in Mosul city.

A Turkish company will construct a power plant in Iraq. Calik will build and operate the new Qayyara gas power plant in Mosul city of the country.

The cost of the project is estimated at $338 million. Once the plant begins its commercial operations, it will produce up to 750 megawatts of power.

The project is part of the government s attempts to speed up the completion of gas power plants, in an attempt to provide 15,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the country by 2016.

According to the current estimates, the demand for power this summer could hit 14,000 megawatts, with available generated capacity just 9,000.
