IONICS RECEIVES CONTRACT FOR FOOD PROCESSING EQUIPMENT
WATERTOWN, Mass., Jan. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Ionics, Incorporated (NYSE: ION) announced today that it had received a contract totaling over $2.4 million for its Electromat(R) electrodialysis equipment to be used in a proprietary process to produce a new protein food product.
Under the contract Ionics is scheduled to deliver a full scale membrane-based system to an undisclosed customer in June 1992. The contract provides the customer with an option to enter into an operating and maintenance agreement with Ionics under which the customer would lease, rather than purchase, the membrane stack components of the system.
Ionics has been active in supplying membrane-based systems for the processing and purification of proteins for many years. Its Electromat equipment is utilized for the purification of cheese whey, a protein product which is widely used in infant formula, and for the purification of biological fluids and pharmaceutical products. Ionics holds several patents for the fractionation and purification of protein mixtures.
Ionics is a separations technology company involved worldwide in the manufacture and sale of membranes and related equipment for the purification of water, food and pharmaceutical products, in the supply of purified water and water treatment chemicals, and in the sale of bottled water and home water purifiers.
