Hundreds are expected to attend the second annual investors' conference of the Channel Islands chapter of the National Association of Investors Corp. on Saturday in Oxnard, where the keynote speaker will be the association's president and chief executive officer.

NAIC President and CEO Kenneth S. Janke will discuss strategies for investing in the next millennium, including global expansion, after-hours trading and corporate mergers, said Doris Lance, spokeswoman for the NAIC's Channel Islands chapter.

``The aim of the conference is to educate and inform both experienced and new investors about companies and the stock market,'' said Lance, who helped establish the chapter in 1996. The Channel Islands chapter is composed of 250 clubs with more than 3,300 investors throughout Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, she said.

NAIC members will hear presentations from Del Webb Corp., General Electric Corp., Crown Resources, First American Title Company and Moog Inc. Lance said the companies will present their latest earnings and forecast their companies' financial prospects.

Ken Plonski, director of public relations with Del Webb, said the conference will allow the company to get its name out to individual investors as part of an overall strategy to lower the amount of shares being held by institutional investors.

Based in Phoenix, Del Webb is the nation's leading builder of active adult communities for people 55 and older, and the seventh largest builder of single-family homes in the United States.

In addition, an exhibitors showcase will provide attendees with information on direct purchase plans, dividend reinvestment programs, annual reports and further knowledge about the companies' products and services.

Lance said two workshops - ``Starting and Running an Investment Club'' and ``Using the Resources of NAIC Better-Investing Online'' - will also be offered. Executives from a half-dozen companies will take part in a panel discussion, she said.

Founded in 1951, Detroit-based NAIC, a nonprofit organization, provides investment education to almost 700,000 individual investors and club members nationwide. The idea is to increase the number of individual investors in common stock, said Lance.
