INTREPID, GRAND CHEROKEE RECOGNIZED BY AMERICAN MARKETING ASSOCIATION

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., May 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Leading marketing and advertising executives from around the country have judged the launches of the Jeep(R) Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Intrepid to be "superior product introductions."
The two Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) products have received Gold Edison Awards from the American Marketing Association (AMA), which established the award seven years ago to recognize product introductions in 24 product categories. This year, AMA presented 29 Gold Edison Awards and 69 Edisons in all (including gold, silver, bronze and special awards).
Chrysler was the only domestic car company to win two gold awards. Other vehicles recognized include the Nissan Altima and Infiniti J30 (gold); Mercury Villager (silver) and Honda del Sol (bronze).
Judging criteria include innovations in marketing and technology; products of lasting value, not fads; products that improve a consumer's lifestyle or increase a consumer's freedom of choice; and products that are profitable and have staying power.
CME-KHBB Advertising was the agency for the Jeep Grand Cherokee launch and BBDO North America was the agency for the Dodge Intrepid launch.
The AMA awards are the most recent in a long list of awards Chrysler's newest products have received. The Grand Cherokee, Dodge Intrepid and sister cars Eagle Vision and Chrysler Concorde have been recognized by Car and Driver magazine's "10 Best List." The Concorde, Intrepid and Vision won Automobile magazine's "1993 Automobile of the Year" award and Home Mechanix magazine's "Easy Maintenance Car of the Year" award. Dodge Intrepid also won Popular Science magazine's "Best of What's New" award.
The Grand Cherokee Laredo V-8 won Motor Trend magazine's "1993 Truck of the Year." The Grand Cherokee also won Popular Science "Best of What's New" award, Popular Mechanics magazine's "1993 Design and Engineering Award," Four Wheeler magazine's "Four Wheeler of the Year" award, and 4Wheel & Off-Road magazine's "4x4 of the Year" award.
Other magazines to recognize the vehicles include Fortune, Business Week, The Robb Report, Automundo and Kiplinger's Personal Finance. The Automotive Journalists of Canada, the Washington Post, the Motoring Press Association and Public Television's "Motorweek" have also given "Car of the Year" awards to one or all of the vehicles.
In addition to the accolades, the vehicles have helped turn around Chrysler's sales. Jeep-Eagle sales were up 55 percent in April from the previous April's sales total. Chrysler car sales are up 33 percent for the year, thanks in large part to the successful launch of the Concorde, Vision and Intrepid.
