INTRAFED SCANS 50 MILLIONTH IMAGE

WASHINGTON, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- In reaching a national high- speed scanning milestone, INTRAFED, Inc., today announced its results to date in the high-volume scanning marketplace -- more than 30 installations producing more than 50 million converted images.
"We've integrated high-volume capture systems across more diverse environments than any other imaging systems integrator," said Tim Fleischer, INTRAFED's vice president of technology. "Our scanning systems were used for Iraqi document exploitation during Desert Storm, and the same systems are currently capturing millions of documents for numerous document management applications, including claims processors, financial institutions and government agencies," said Fleischer.
Since INTRAFED's introduction of PowerScan in 1991, a total of 32 major, high-volume customers have purchased one or more units of the turnkey high-volume scanning system.
Featuring the high-speed KODAK IMAGELINK Scanner 900, PowerScan is a turnkey scanning subsystem that interfaces with any imaging system and captures documents at a rate of 120 pages per minute (240 images/minute duplex).
The various customer applications range from corporate mailrooms to backfile conversion. "Modular in design, the INTRAFED imaging solution facilitates flexible workflows to ensure that when image and indexing information is uploaded to the retrieval system, the upload is perfect," said Fleischer.
Of the 32 installations, INTRAFED was pleased to announce three major source document conversion bureaus as new customers in 1992. "One customer alone processed nearly 12 million pages in five months," said Fleischer.
Fleischer recently authored a feature story in the March issue of Imaging Magazine titled, "How to Achieve Total Quality in High-Volume Environments," which addresses the conspicuous void that exists between high-volume scanning and image retrieval. Fleischer contends that Total Quality Imaging (TQI) can be achieved using a dedicated post-scan system to perform production quality control, rework, deskew, form removal, OCR/ICR and other image/index processing.
INTRAFED will be a major exhibitor at this year's Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM) Show, April 6-8, Chicago, where the company will also be announcing some breakthrough products to its line of scanning systems.
A KODAK Business Partner, INTRAFED, Inc., is a software developer, value-added reseller and specialty integrator based in Washington. INTRAFED's PowerScan solution is also featured in KODAK demonstration facilities in Rochester, N.Y.; New York; Arlington, Va.; and Charlotte, N.C.
