INTERSOLV DELIVERS PVCS SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT 5.1; NEW GRAPHICAL INTERFACE SPEEDS HETEROGENEOUS LAN-BASED DEVELOPMENT

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Today at the Software Development '93 Conference and Exhibition, INTERSOLV, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISLI) announced general availability of Version 5.1 of the PVCS Software Configuration Management Series. PVCS 5.1 significantly increases the speed, flexibility and ease with which end users and systems administrators manage software configurations in multi-vendor PC-LAN environments.
INTERSOLV PVCS 5.1 features a new graphical user interface which provides a single point of entry to the entire suite of PVCS tools. This allows systems administrators to easily install and configure PVCS and provides end users with a consistent way to access information from a variety of platforms. In addition, Version 5.1's sophisticated graphical interface, for Microsoft's Windows and IBM's OS/2 and on-line help facility dramatically decrease the developer learning curve.
"PVCS has always been an important component in our customers' software development process," said John Treacy, director, product management, INTERSOLV. "We are pleased to respond to the needs of our users by delivering a new version which makes it even easier for end users and administrators to work with PVCS in heterogeneous LAN environments."
Additional features of PVCS 5.1 include:
-- Windows Support allows developers to use PVCS Configuration Builder to automatically build DOS and Windows applications while under Microsoft Windows. INTERSOLV is the only vendor that offers this capability.
-- Project Management provides users with the ability to standardize development efforts within a project architecture. Projects, which can be easily defined by PVCS administrators, control the components, attributes and boundaries of development tasks. This allows team members to work more efficiently by automatically accessing a shared project directory structure and common configuration settings each time they open a project.
-- File Management allows users to easily access files from multiple archives without needing to know where the information resides. Users can "check-in" and "check-out" entire sets of files to and from directory trees with logical mapping to physical areas.
"PVCS 5.1 makes our jobs easier by allowing us to access the functionality of the entire product line from one interface," said Dennis O'Flynn, Ford Motor Company. "The graphical interface combined with the new version's advanced file and project management features make it a valuable tool for increasing our productivity."
The PVCS Software Configuration Management Series consists of PVCS Version Manager, PVCS Configuration Builder, PVCS Developer's Toolkit, PVCS Production Gateway and PVCS Reporter. Built on a modular architecture, the components operate seamlessly across MS- DOS, Windows, OS/2 and many UNIX platforms, including SCO-UNIX, System VR4, Intel 80x86, Solaris 2.0, Sun OS n build applications for a wide variety of production environments, including PCs, LANs, mainframes and client/server environments.
