INTERSOLV AND DIGITALK DELIVER SOFTWARE CONFIGURATION MANAGEMENT TO THE OO WORLD; ALLIANCE INTEGRATES INTERSOLV PVCS AND DIGITALK'S TEAM/V

ROCKVILLE, Md., and LOS ANGELES, June 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today INTERSOLV (NASDAQ: ISLI) and Digitalk, Inc. announced a joint development and marketing agreement that allows Digitalk to bundle INTERSOLV's PVCS into its object-oriented Team/V collaborative programming system for Smalltalk/V. This agreement provides Team/V users with transparent access to PVCS, the world's leading software configuration management (SCM) tool.
"As development has moved to a team environment on the LAN, developers have faced a number of roadblocks in trying to make client/server development a reality," said Kevin Burns, president and CEO of INTERSOLV. "One of the most significant challenges for LAN-based developers has been the absence of SCM, which allows teams of developers to work together efficiently to produce high-quality applications. Our alliance with Digitalk offers object-oriented programmers a solution by providing them with PVCS' powerful version management capabilities within Team/V's collaborative environment."
"Smalltalk/V has been the leader in pure object-oriented programming for 8 years," said Jim Anderson, chairman and CEO of Digitalk. "Our customers' successes in developing applications in Smalltalk/V have led to larger and larger projects, requiring tools to manage large teams. By integrating PVCS into the Team/V environment, we are able to provide our customers with one-stop shopping for complete collaborative environments using Smalltalk/V. We now provide a complete suite of tools for development teams of any size."
PVCS -- The Industry Standard for SCM on the LAN
INTERSOLV's PVCS is the defacto industry standard for SCM on the LAN because it operates across a wide variety of PC and workstation environments. PVCS provides a consistent management and control mechanism for users working under Windows, DOS, OS/2 or UNIX and a common framework for control of all types of development objects including Smalltalk, C, C++, 4GLs and COBOL. By providing one consistent SCM tool across multiple operating systems, languages and tools, PVCS allows users to enjoy the benefits of reusability, decreased training costs and increased productivity.
The PVCS Software Configuration Management Family consists of PVCS Version Manager, PVCS Configuration Builder, PVCS Developer's Toolkit, PVCS Production Gateway and PVCS Reporter. The modules can be used separately or in combination with one another to form an integrated SCM environment on the LAN.
Team/V -- The Distributed Workgroup Development Tool for Smalltalk/V
Team/V, which began shipping in March 1993, is a fully integrated workgroup programming environment for multiple developers using Digitalk's Smalltalk/V object-oriented development environment. The collaborative environment organizes code into modular units called packages, which are shaped among developers. The system allows packages to be browsed before integration, provides version and programmer identification and allows complex classes to be organized by category. Packages are then organized in a repository that provides full version management and access control.
 Pricing and Availability
PVCS has been integrated into the next release of Team/V, which is expected to ship next month. Customers who have already purchased Team/V Release 1.0 will receive the new release, including the PVCS functionality for $99. Team/V sells for $1,595.
Under the terms of their joint marketing agreement, INTERSOLV and Digitalk will work together to mutually promote their products within the installed base of both companies.
