INTERNET2 GETS $225M OVER TWO YEARS.

President Clinton has signed a bill authorizing funding of $225m for the Next Generation Internet (NGI) project through 2000. The NGI project, or Internet2 as it is also known, is the high-speed network being built to link US universities through a non-profit company called University Corporation for Advanced Internet Development (UCAID). The bill authorizes $110m for fiscal 1999 and $115m for 2000. The bill also establishes an advisory committee to report back to Congress and the president at least once a year, with the first report coming in six months time.
