INTERNATIONAL TRADE COMMISSION FINDS INJURY TO BROTHER FROM IMPORTED PORTABLE ELECTRONIC TYPEWRITERS

SOMERSET, N.J., Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States International Trade Commission found by a 4-2 vote that Brother Industries (U.S.A.) Inc. ("BIUSA") was being injured by imports of portable electronic typewriters from Singapore. This finding comes after the Department of Commerce's recent final determination that Singapore PETs were being sold at less than fair value in the United States.
"We are pleased with this decision because it grants Brother hard fought protection under the U.S. trade laws," said Brother International Corporation President Patrick T. Gilmore. "Our goal has always been to compete in the marketplace and not at the Commerce Department or in court. When we were challenged as a U.S. manufacturer, there was really no choice but to proceed with this case. The outcome removes all doubt about Brother's commitment to the United States and our position as the representative of the domestic PET industry."
Brother is America's largest manufacturer of portable electronic typewriters and personal word processors, and distributes a full line of automated office, industrial and home electronic products. In addition to its corporate headquarters in Somerset, Brother has operations in California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Texas.
