INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORP. SELECTED FOR WESTINGHOUSE HANFORD CO. ANALYTICAL SERVICES CONTRACT AT DOE HANFORD SITE

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- International Technology Corp. (NYSE: ITX) (IT) announced today that it has been selected for the award of the Environmental and Waste Characterization Analytical Services contract by Westinghouse Hanford Co. (Westinghouse) at the Hanford site, a Department of Energy (DOE) facility in Richland, Wash. IT's portion of the contract is valued at approximately $218 million over an eight-year period, with one additional five-year option period. The Hanford facility, a former weapons material production site, is located on 560 square miles in southeastern Washington.
IT has been selected for the primary award on this fixed-unit price contract for laboratory testing services on environmental and waste samples. This contract will serve as the primary vehicle for analyzing environmental samples.
Robert B. Sheh, president and chief operating officer of IT, said that IT will begin a significant expansion of capacity of its Richland laboratory and hire additional personnel. Through the use of the existing Richland laboratory, which serves a broad range of clients, IT can begin immediate processing of a portion of the sample volume and proceed with expansion requirements.
Sheh said that, during the expansion period, analytical services not provided by the Richland laboratory will be furnished by four other licensed laboratories within the IT laboratory network. These interim support laboratories are located in St. Louis; Knoxville, Tenn.; and two facilities in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
"IT welcomes the opportunity to join efforts with Westinghouse Hanford Co. and the DOE and extends management's support to the expansion requirements of this challenging and important project," he said.
International Technology Corp., based in Torrance, is a leading environmental management company providing services to government and industry. The company's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ITX.
