INTERNATIONAL TECHNOLOGY CORP. ANNOUNCES PLANNING PERMISSION
FOR TWO INTEGRATED TREATMENT FACILITIES IN U.K. DENIED
TORRANCE, Calif., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- International Technology Corp. (NYSE: ITX) (IT) announced today that planning permission for two integrated treatment facilities in the United Kingdom was denied by the Department of the Environment (DOE).
The company, in joint venture with Northumbria Water Group, PLC (Northumbria), a regional water and sewage collection authority in the United Kingdom, had filed appeals in fiscal year 1991 with DOE related to planning permission applications, which were initially denied in fiscal year 1990 by the local authorities, for integrated facilities for chemical and thermal treatment of sewage and industrial wastes. Based principally on siting issues, the DOE rendered a decision to dismiss the appeals. IT and Northumbria, with the assistance of legal counsel, are currently evaluating alternatives, including whether to pursue further appeals which are available under U.K. legislation or alternate locations for the facilities. As a result of the DOE decision, the company's investment in the joint venture of approximately $1.8 million, principally related to planning and permitting costs in connection with these applications, may not be recoverable. The company's course of action will be determined during the next several months.
International Technology Corp., based in Torrance, is a leading environmental management company providing services to government and industry. The company's common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ITX.
