 INTERNATIONAL NETWORKING SERVICES OFFERING
 EXPANDED BY IBM INFORMATION NETWORK
 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 19 /PRNewswire/ -- The IBM Information Network today took several steps toward broadening its Network Services offering with the announcement of two new international communication capabilities supporting X.25 and Advanced Peer-to-Peer Networking (APPN).
 International X.25 communication
 The combination of International X.25 communication with existing IBM Information Network Network Services gives customers additional methods to communicate internationally. A customer can use the new connectivity option on an international basis to meet its interoperability needs for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) or support for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
 The IBM Information Network supports a wide variety of X.25 enabled devices and network configurations. These include X.25 data terminal equipment (DTE) or X.25 networks attached to the IBM Information Network that are either IBM or non-IBM equipment. Benefits of International X.25 communication include:
 -- OSI value-added networking capabilities
 -- Protection of the customer's investment in communication
 equipment o Enhanced productivity by allowing customers to
 use systems with which they are familiar
 -- Increased company-to-company connections between IBM and
 non-IBM electronic mail systems
 -- Accessibility to the wide range of IBM Information Network
 services
 International APPN communication
 International APPN communication provides a managed networking solution that enables customers with multiple locations around the world to communicate, share, process and use the information they need to compete in the global market. Customers needing peer communication and applications to support distributed organizations and application platforms requiring Advanced Peer-To-Peer Communication (APPC) can connect multiple locations internationally.
 International APPN communication is an expansion of the leased line APPN service now offered within the various geographic locations served by the IBM Information Network. APPN support is currently offered through national Low Entry Networking (LEN) and provides peer communications among users' systems and applications in countries located in North America, Europe, Asia/Pacific and Latin America. Benefits of International APPN communication include:
 -- More effective support of distributed organizations
 -- Accelerated access to rapidly expanding international
 markets
 -- Easier implementation of international networking
 -- Immediate access to business information for decision makers
 anywhere in the world
 -- Cost savings by extending a customer's ability to access new
 applications and changing technology through the IBM
 Information Network

Jackson, director of international product marketing for the IBM Information Network. "Companies must deal with business practices, telecommunications infrastructure, government regulations, time zones and languages.
 "The expansion of Network Services support for X.25 and APPN on an international basis is the next step in the IBM Information Network's commitment to provide premier business solutions internationally," he added.
 International Support Services
 The IBM Information Network also recently announced International Support Services to help customers achieve international connectivity. With International Support Services, customers can concentrate on their business expansion to meet the challenges of a worldwide corporation. International Support Services include international project management and installation assistance on a fee basis.
 With assistance available in more than 30 countries, International Support Services provides the networking expertise customers need to expand their international communications for enterprise and inter- enterprise business solutions.
 "International Support Services can help our customers achieve worldwide connectivity in a timely manner allowing them to concentrate on their core business while we handle the day-to-day activities of building and managing an international network," said Jackson.
 International X.25 Communication will be available on a commercial basis beginning in June 1992. International APPN Communication has a planned availability of July 1992. Both offerings will be available on a country-by-country basis. International Support Services are currently available.
 The IBM Information Network is IBM's international value-added network that offers leased line and dial network services, messaging services, including electronic mail and electronic data interchange, and capacity services in either a shared or dedicated environment. User access to the IBM information Network is available from 90 countries worldwide.
