 INTERNATIONAL JENSEN ACQUIRES DAVIDSON-ROTH CORPORATION
LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- International Jensen

Incorporated (IJI) today announced the acquisition of Davidson-Roth Corporation, manufacturer of high-quality audio products under the Day-Sequerra brand name.
Robert G. Shaw, IJI's president and chief executive officer said, "the purchase of Davidson-Roth gives IJI advanced proprietary technology required for the development and manufacture of sophisticated audio products and brings the highly respected Day-Sequerra brand name into the IJI family.
"It is an acquisition with clear and significant benefits for both parties. Davidson-Roth is a small, entrepreneurial organization with highly specialized technology and a desire to excel. IJI, as parent company, has the financial, technical and operational resources to nurture that pursuit. Davidson-Roth, at the same time, has research and design skills that will be an important addition to IJI's technology base."
Davidson-Roth will relocate its headquarters, manufacturing and research and development operations from Schaumburg, Ill., to Canton, Mass., which is also the home of Acoustic Research (AR), another member of the IJI family. "Like Acoustic Research, Davidson-Roth will operate as an independent division," Shaw said.
David V. Day, founder of Davidson-Roth, will continue to manage Davidson-Roth and will also assume the responsibilities of director of engineering at Acoustic Research.
Arthur H. Blumenthal, vice president and general manager of Acoustic Research said, "this is a very exciting time for us. Earlier this year Acoustic Research announced plans to produce a line of reference quality products to compete with the world's finest audio systems. IJI's acquisition of Davidson-Roth, and our existing relationship with Cello Ltd., provide Acoustic Research with the highest levels of research, design and engineering expertise. This, combined with Acoustic Research's manufacturing and distribution capabilities, gives us the ingredients necessary for success in today's highly competitive marketplace."
Cello Ltd. of Connecticut recently combined with Acoustic Research in a joint venture to produce the line of reference quality audio products.
Davidson-Roth was founded by David Day in 1984 to build the legendary Sequerra Model 1 FM Tuner. The Day-Sequerra FM Broadcast Monitor and FM Studio Monitor followed in 1987, establishing Davidson-Roth as the manufacturer of the world's finest tuners. Current Day-Sequerra products include the FM Panalyzer, the FM Reference Tuner, the Urban Antenna, and special products for military applications. These products are distributed in 18 countries around the world.
Two new items will be released shortly: the FM SignalMaster outdoor antenna, and the FM Studio 2 Tuner. The next project for Davidson-Roth is the design of a new FM tuner and CD player for the forthcoming Acoustic Research reference product line.
David Day's background includes many years of experience in the research, design and development of advanced secure communications and electronic countermeasure systems for military applications. These include Radio Frequency (RF), Electro-Optical (EO) and Infra-Red (IR) systems. Davidson-Roth has also carried out consultancy work for both the Northrop and Motorola Corporations. The disciplines required for military work are evident in Day-Sequerra products, which are built to standards far above normally seen in consumer audio products.
International Jensen Inc. is based in Lincolnshire. IJI has been a leading manufacturer of home and automotive loudspeakers and related electronics for more than 60 years. IJI is one of the largest vertically integrated American audio companies, marketing products under the "ACOUSTIC RESEARCH," "ADVENT," "JENSEN," "NHT," "PHASE LINEAR" and now the "DAY-SEQUERRA" brand names.
