SEATTLE, June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Interactive Communications Society (IICS) today announced a town meeting with community, business and technical leaders designed to spark public debate about the new interactive digital services offered by cable companies, telephone companies and satellite broadcasters. The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, at the Seattle Center, Lopez Room, Northwest Rooms Building, Seattle. In addition to the Seattle Chapter of IICS, co-sponsoring organizations include: the Washington Software Association, Electra, 9-1-1 Media Arts Center, Computer Professionals for Social Responsibility and Vision Seattle. The societal impacts of cable and information technology are already being felt in the way we gather information, learn, entertain ourselves and shop. As the pace of new development and installation increases, we will be faced with major decisions regarding equal public access, programming that reflects America's cultural pluralism, censorship and freedom of expression. The panel will make short presentations to precipitate questions and comments from the audience. Panel members are: -- Marlin Blizinsky, manager, Office of Cable Communications, King County -- Andrew Gordon, UW School of Public Policy; Citizens Cable Communications Advisory Board -- Steven Hodas, consultant in electronic media development -- Jeffrey Michka, WA Community InfoSource; Coalition of Washington Communities -- Steve Wood, president and chief executive officer, Millennium Services -- Bill Wright, president, Triangle Management Anne Stadler, Anne Stadler Associates, will chair the panel and facilitate the evening. The meeting is free to the public, but a $5 donation at the door will be gratefully accepted. Please come prepared to participate with your questions, concerns and opinions. -0- 6/7/93 /CONTACT: Bill Nisen, (voice and fax) 206-888-2674, or firstname.lastname@example.org, or Stark Beatty, 206-547-7378, or fax, 206-548-1408, or email@example.com, both of the International Interactive Communications Society/
