INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS TO LAUNCH MAY 7
Americans to Get the Low-Down on Royal Capers, Celebrity Follies,
Euro-Fashion, Political Sparring and Sporting Rivalries
NEW YORK, April 23 (PR/TV Newswire) -- Leading United Kingdom

publishers, Express Newspapers plc, today announced the launch of International Express, a weekly tabloid that will be available in the United States as of May 7, 1992.
International Express was created for the large number of Britons living in the U.S., for Americans with strong British connections or just anybody with an insatiable yearning for information about the Royals, celebrities and political figures. The weekly tabloid will bring the best...and juiciest... of British social, political and sporting news from two of Britain's most popular papers, Daily Express and Sunday Express.
Beginning May 7, International Express will be on most East Coast newsstands including New York, Washington, D.C., Boston, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Orlando, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Miami for $2.50. It will also be available by subscription.
A limited amount of advertising is invited from U.S. companies. The paper is unique, therefore, in that it contains very few ads and is jam- packed with the nitty-gritty of British goings-on.
International Express is being launched in New York by Andrew Cameron, Managing Director and Christopher Claxton, General Manager of Overseas Development. The Express' chief columnist Ross Benson -- renowned Royal watcher and social sleuth -- will be on hand to talk about the fine British tradition of gossipry.
"There are almost three-quarters-of-a-million British-born Americans who are thirsty for British news, and large numbers of Americans who have close contacts with the United Kingdom," said Claxton.
"The International Express contains the pick of the week from Daily Express and Sunday Express. It will be packed with news, features and sports. It's a journalist's dream," says editor, Ray Mills.
In 1990, the paper was successfully launched in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia (Singapore, Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Taiwan) and in South Africa and Canada in 1991. In April of this year, it was released in Kenya. International Express will be launched on the West Coast in September 1992 and in Zimbabwe in January 1993. International readership is now close to half a million.
International Express editorial will arrive weekly by air courier from London. The paper will be printed in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
