INTERNATIONAL CYCLISTS CELEBRATE FREEDOM AT KMART MEMORIAL DAY BARBECUE
 AND SHOPPING SPREE
 WHAT: Memorial Day Barbecue and Shopping Spree to kick off the inaugural West Virginia Mountain Classic.
 WHEN: Today, May 25
 3 p.m. -- Shopping Spree
 3-6 p.m. -- Picnic
 WHERE: Morgantown (W. Va.) Mall Kmart store and parking lot, I-79 and Route 19 at the Westover exit.
 WHO: International cyclists from 15 nations including Russia, Italy, France and Belgium will participate in a ceremony and shopping spree at Kmart. They will be presented with Kmart gift certificates and gifts. After the ceremony they will join local dignitaries at the barbecue.
 WHY: The Memorial Day barbecue is an all-American tradition, as is shopping at Kmart. The two events together will give the international cyclists an opportunity to experience a taste of America and celebrate the kickoff of the bike race.
 BACKGROUND: Kmart is a presenting sponsor of the international cycling event which will wind through the hills of West Virginia from May 27-31.
 "As an international retailer, Kmart proudly welcomes these athletes from around the world," said Tim Nelson, store manager of Kmart's Morgantown Mall store. "We're proud to share traditions such as shopping at Kmart and enjoying a backyard barbecue."
 Race participants, local dignitaries, invited guests and Kmart associates will be entertained by a jug band. Race teams will also receive special gifts marking the occasion and will be available to meet with the media.
 Kmart will also sponsor a bike safety clinic on May 25 and 27. Children can bring their bicycles to the Morgantown Mall Kmart store for a safety inspection between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. either day.
 Kmart has 16 stores in West Virginia and employs nearly 2,000 residents.
