 INTERMET ANNOUNCES MAJOR ORDER FROM FORD
 ATLANTA, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermet Corporation (NASDAQ: INMT)


today announced that it has been awarded a five-year purchase order to supply ductile iron I-beam castings to Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F). The castings covered by the new order will average an estimated 25,000 tons annually. The I-beams, which are for Ford's Explorer sports utility wagon and its standard size pickup trucks and vans, range in weight from 26 to 36 pounds.
 These castings will be produced at Intermet's Irontown, Ohio plant. Production is scheduled to begin in August 1992 on the part with the highest volume requirement. All other parts are expected to be in full production by January 1993.
 "These I-beams, with their rigorous safety standards, are a good fit for us," said Intermet Chairman and CEO George W. Mathews, Jr. "We look forward to working with Ford to ensure a smooth transition into production."
 Atlanta-based Intermet Corporation and its subsidiaries manufacture precision iron parts for automobiles and industrial customers primarily in North America and Europe.
