 INTERMAGNETICS GENERAL CORPORATION'S ANNUAL MEETING
HIGHLIGHTS NEW ORDER AND R&D PROGRESS
GUILDERLAND, N.Y., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Intermagnetics General Corporation (AMEX: IMG) today announced at its annual meeting, held in New York City, that Sopha Medical's Magnetech division, a major French medical diagnostic imaging corporation and leading global supplier of such medical equipment, has awarded to the Field Effects division of Intermagnetics General Corporation (IGC) a multi-year purchase contract in excess of $8 million, for the supply of whole body MRI permanent magnets. The magnets are to be manufactured by Field Effects in Acton, Mass.
IGC's president, Carl H. Rosner, also announced that IGC's subsidiary, APD Cryogenics Inc., had achieved very promising initial results from its research into new refrigerants, including potential replacements for Freon, based upon a new technology suitable for both very low temperature and room temperature refrigeration equipment. The company cautioned, however, that the preliminary R&D work is incomplete and that no firm conclusions could as yet be drawn as to the potential commercial viability of this technology.
Finally, the company reported that its scientists who are developing higher temperature superconductor materials, continue to achieve record performance characteristics in the United States in usable sample length of wire and tape, at a level now comparable to the best state-of-the-art in the world.
After the re-election of four directors to its seven-member board, shareholders were shown a brief video detailing many of the company's activities and facilities.
Intermagnetics General, as a leading manufacturer of superconducting magnets, wire and associated ultra-low temperature refrigeration equipment, the combination of which is especially useful in medical diagnostic imaging (MRI) systems, is dedicated to the development and commercialization of applied superconducting and permanent magnet systems. The company also is a leading producer of materials separation equipment.
