INTERFACE SYSTEMS, INC. ANNOUNCES FIRST-QUARTER EARNINGS UP 91 PERCENT OVER LAST YEAR

ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Interface Systems, Inc., (NASDAQ-NMS: INTF) announced today net earnings of $615,010, or $0.15 per share, up 91 percent from last year's first-quarter earnings of $321,257, or $0.08 per share. Revenues in the first quarter were $8,999,470, up 1 percent from last year's revenue of $8,941,871. (Nematron accounted for approximately $3.9 million of this total.) This year's first-quarter revenues do not include those of Nematron Corporation.
Carl L. Bixby, president, said, "First-quarter performance was excellent for our core business. Nematron Corporation business was not included in our reporting for the quarter as they will be spun-off to our shareholders in February. Their elimination from our financials make comparisons with prior periods' performance somewhat difficult. While this quarter does not include Nematron, it does include the effect of our acquisition of Interface Systems International, Ltd., which occurred in February of 1992."
Bixby continued, "As in our last quarter, this quarter includes a charge against pretax income as a provision for Nematron losses and costs of the spin-off that may be incurred in the second quarter before the spin-off is complete. If this provision of $155,000 had not been made, net income would have been approximately $720,000 or $0.17 per share."
Ann Arbor-based Interface Systems provides printing and connectivity solutions for IBM enterprise networks. The company manufactures a full line of printers for use with IBM mainframe and midrange computers, as well as software and hardware for linking personal computers, workstations, and midrange systems to IBM mainframe-based networks.
