INTERFACE ACQUIRES LOW-PROFILE ACCESS FLOORING SYSTEM

LAGRANGE, Ga., Jan. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Interface, Inc. (NASDAQ: IFSIA), announced today that it has acquired, through its U.S. and French subsidiaries, certain assets of Servoplan, S.A. of France.
The assets acquired include all patents, know-how and production equipment relating to the low-profile access flooring system produced by Servoplan. This innovative new system, which has been sold by Servoplan almost exclusively in France, is designed specifically for installation in commercial office space and provides an economical and practical means of increasing an existing building's utility management capacity (all standard underfloor electrical and telephone wiring fits easily within the system).
Interface had previously obtained an option to become the exclusive manufacturer and marketer of the Servoplan system in North America, but the extremely positive response from Interface's customers and the company's desire to market the system on a worldwide basis prompted it to acquire the technology and related equipment. Servoplan will continue to market the system in Paris as a distributor of Interface, and Interface has retained the principals of Servoplan to spearhead the company's marketing efforts in Europe.
Ray C. Anderson, Interface's chairman and chief executive officer, stated: "This low-profile access flooring system, which we sell under the name INTERCELL(TM), represents an exciting new market for the company, and is in line with our ongoing strategy of diversifying into related businesses in the commercial interiors arena. Because the system is so compact -- having a total height of less than three inches -- it can be installed in virtually any existing structure without loss of valuable head room, and thus constitutes an enormous potential market for the company. The INTERCELL system is a natural fit with our free- lay carpet tile products, providing a unique combination for architects, developers and facilities managers in need of maximum flexibility in designing new buildings and refurbishing existing facilities."
Interface, Inc., is committed to delivering superior value to its customers as the world's largest manufacturer of carpet tiles under the Interface and Heuga brands, and interior fabrics under the Guilford of Maine brand, for use in offices, healthcare facilities, airports, educational and other institutions, and retail facilities. The company also manufactures carpet tiles for residential use. In addition, the company engages in the manufacture and sale of chemicals used in various rubber and plastic products, and offers INTERSEPT(R), the company's proprietary antimicrobial chemical, under a licensing program to manufacturers of other products.
