INTERDIGITAL RECEIVES ORDER FROM INDONESIA VALUED AT APPROXIMATELY $15 MILLION

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Nov. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital Communications Corporation (AMEX: IDC) announced today that it has signed a contract with PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia for UltraPhone(R) Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) digital wireless radiotelephone systems, valued at approximately $15 million.
The Export-Import Bank of the United States has committed to provide financing for the project. InterDigital said it expects that UltraPhone deliveries will commence no later than the first quarter of 1994 and continue into the second quarter. Including previously installed equipment with a value of approximately $23 million, Indonesia to date has ordered more than $38 million of UltraPhone equipment from InterDigital.
InterDigital has instituted engineering and design changes to the UltraPhone for Indonesia. The systems will initially provide more than 6,500 customers, throughout the country, with state-of-the-art telecommunications. Many of these customers will be receiving telephone service for the first time. All of the systems have a capacity for future growth.
"This is a new international UltraPhone product which meets CCITT recommendations and operates in a bandwidth of 343 MHz," said James Hamby, regional vice president for Asia. "In addition, wireless pay phones will be introduced to Indonesia for the first time."
InterDigital is a world leader in TDMA and Broadband-Code Division Multiple Access (B-CDMA) digital wireless technology and products with an extensive United States and foreign patent portfolio. Its UltraPhone TDMA digital wireless radiotelephone system is installed in more than 175 locations worldwide.
