INTERDIGITAL PATENTS CORPORATION SELECTS LAW FIRM

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- InterDigital Patents Corporation, a subsidiary of InterDigital Communications Corporation (AMEX: IDC) announced today the engagement of the law firm of Dickstein, Shapiro & Morin to represent it in connection with possible patent infringement litigation that may be initiated by InterDigital to enforce its portfolio of 32 U.S. patents dealing with digital wireless telephones using Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology.
The North American digital cellular telephone standard, IS-54, and the European and Japanese standards, GSM and UDC, all utilize TDMA technology. Dickstein, Shapiro & Morin, a nationally prominent law firm based in Washington, specializes in litigation of major cases. The firm was selected after interviews with a number of qualified law firms.
As part of its representation, the Dickstein, Shapiro & Morin law firm has agreed to a partial contingent fee arrangement based on the successful enforcement of InterDigital's patents.
Commenting on this announcement, Robert S. Bramson, president and chief executive officer of InterDigital Patents Corporation, said, "We recently successfully completed a private placement and raised $5.5 million. This contingent fee engagement is our second strategic step and enables us to multiply our financial resources to aggressively protect and enforce our portfolio of more than 50 U.S. patents and 450 foreign patents covering TDMA, CDMA and other wireless technology. With the engagement of the Dickstein, Shapiro & Morin firm, I am confident that we have the highest quality legal representation available."
The litigation team will be led by John T. Kotelly, a well known jury trial lawyer, who has tried more than 150 civil and criminal jury cases. Kotelly holds an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute as well as a law degree from Georgetown University Law School. The trial team will also include the chair and a member of the Intellectual Property Group of the firm, Gary M. Hoffman and Thomas D'Amico. Hoffman has handled more than 75 intellectual property litigation cases and holds a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and a law degree from George Washington University. D'Amico, a senior partner, has a degree in electrical engineering from Washington University and a law degree from George
Washington University. D'Amico was a telephony patent examiner for approximately six years before clerking for Judge Donald E. Lane of the U.S. Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (now the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit) and then entered the private practice of law.
InterDigital Communications Corporation is a pioneer in TDMA and B-CDMA technology and products. Its Ultraphone(R) TDMA digital radiotelephone system is ordered for or installed in more than 175 locations worldwide.
