HUMBOLDT, S.D., Nov. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- InterActive Inc., (NASDAQ: IACTU), will demonstrate at Fall COMDEX November 15-19 in Las Vegas, prototypes of its InterActive Communicator, a PC voice activated personal office communications system. Using voice commands the InterActive Communicator has the ability to answer the telephone, take incoming phone messages, and place telephone calls as well as send and receive fax, and multimedia e-mail.
"We are leading the way for the personal computer to be the center of business communication and expanding its capabilities as an information creation device", explained Gary Kappenman, president and CEO of InterActive Inc. "InterActive's mission is to provide products that enhance business communication. Providing the latest in voice and telephony technologies along with multimedia messaging, the InterActive Communicator allows effective, frustration-free communication for business."
Using a voice command such as "Call John", the InterActive Communicator enters into a working interactive session with the user. The Communicator would respond by saying "Calling John". If the line is busy or not answered, the InterActive Communicator would tell the user and ask "Would you like to call back?" The user could respond "Yes, call John back in five-minutes". The user could also respond "No" and the Communicator waits for the next voice request,
such as "Phone messages" or "M-Mail". Through this type of simple voice interaction, the InterActive Communicator creates and communicates information in a simple, fast and effective method, not available using the traditional keyboard and mouse.
The InterActive Communicator system includes a standard 486 PC running Windows with additional communication hardware and software. It will be available in the first half of 1994 through the Systems Division of InterActive Inc. The Systems Division will combine the company's personal computer communications software and hardware peripherals into turnkey computer telephone integrated (CTI) systems. To facilitate the establishment of the Systems Division, InterActive recently completed the acquisition of Powerhouse Computers, a systems integrator.
InterActive acquired the assets and assumed the liabilities of Powerhouse Computers for $75,000 cash and the issuance of 30,000 shares of the company's common stock. The acquisition will be accounted for as an asset purchase.
