 CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
EXTON, Pa., Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent Electronics (NASDAQ-NMS: INEL), a leading large format retailer of office productivity, announced today that Garland P. Asher joined the company Dec. 1 as its vice president and chief financial officer.
In his new position, Asher will report to Michael R. Shabazian, Intelligent's president and chief operating officer.
Asher replaces Mark R. Briggs who has been promoted to the position of president of Intelligent's franchise division.
"Garland's extensive financial and retail talent will be a great asset in growing Intelligent's large format consumer retailing business," said Richard D. Sanford, Intelligent's chairman and chief executive officer. "We anticipate he will contribute significantly to managing the assets of the company as we strive to capitalize on the synergies among our four divisions and provide world class service to our customers."
Asher previously served as vice president and chief financial officer of Intertan, Inc., an international electronics and computer retailing business which operates 1,400 stores in Australia, Canada and
Europe. Prior to joining Intertan, Asher spent nine years with Tandy

Corporation as director of financial planning, where he played a key role in developing the company's long-range financial policy. Asher also worked for Kidder Peabody and Company as assistant vice president and senior retail analyst.
In 1970, Asher received an M.B.A. in International Finance from the Wharton School of Commerce and Finance at the University of Pennsylvania. He received a bachelor of arts degree in Political

On Dec. 4, Intelligent reported record net income of $38.2 million for the company's fiscal year ended Oct. 31, 1991. The company's 1991 consolidated revenues climbed more than 31 percent to $1.9 billion from $1.46 billion achieved in fiscal year 1990. Intelligent attributes its excellent financial results to its healthy base of market-focused business centers and the positive earnings contribution from BizMart.
