INTELLIGENT ELECTRONICS ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF BIZMART ROLLOUT
EXTON, Pa., Nov. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Marking the completion of the company's entrance into large-format retailing, Intelligent Electronics (NASDAQ-NMS: INEL) today announced it has successfully achieved its BizMart rollout plan.
All 71 BizMart supercenters and MegaCenters now feature competitively priced, name-brand computers and peripherals. Since acquiring the BizMart chain in June, Intelligent has opened 11 new supercenters and MegaCenters and reformatted 60 existing locations to feature microcomputer products from leading manufacturers, including Apple, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, NEC Technologies, and Toshiba.
Ron Stegall, chief executive officer of Intelligent's Consumer Retail Division, said the BizMart chain achieved its roll-out according to plan and on schedule. "We have accomplished in nineteen weeks what most retailers would attempt to accomplish in six months," Stegall said, "and we are extremely pleased with the results." Over the past three weeks alone, Intelligent has opened two new stores; one in Fremont, Calif., and another in Littleton, Colo. It has also enhanced 14 existing locations throughout the marketplaces of Albuquerque, N.M.; Phoenix; Topeka and Kansas City, Kan.; Kansas City, Mo.; and San Leandro, Calif.
Intelligent recently innovated a plan in which its network of systems resellers may franchise BizMart computer departments under a store-within-a-store arrangement. Stegall said franchisees are participating in 54 of the BizMart locations to date and that the program is showing impressive results. "The strategic relationship between the BizMart chain and Intelligent's franchisees capitalizes on the synergies of both groups," he said. "It provides unparalleled customer service in the areas of sales, technical support, and product availability."
Myles Schachter, a participating franchisee in two of the newly enhanced Kansas supercenters spoke enthusiastically about the franchise plan. "The store-within-a-store opportunity allows us to participate in the rapidly growing consumer retail market for computers as a natural extension of our existing business," he said. "We now see more customers in one week than we previously saw in a year."
Intelligent Electronics, Inc. is the leading delivery system of office and technology products. The company serves more than 700 business communities in the United States through its network of more than 1,000 resellers and 70 BizMart supercenters.
