INTEL PRO/1000 ADAPTER OFFERED AS UPGRADE FOR DELL POWEREDGE.
Dell Computer Corporation is offering the Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Server Adapter as an upgrade option for Dell's PowerEdge family of servers, providing customers with the highest level of Gigabit Ethernet performance available in the industry. The PRO/1000 adapter is available for the PowerEdge 2300, 4300, 4350, 6300 and 6350 models.Dell PowerEdge servers offer the Intel Pentium II and Pentium III Xeon processors to meet a range of business needs for workgroup through enterprise server applications. As customers transition their network backbones to Gigabit Ethernet, the Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Server Adapter enables them to take full advantage of the Pentium II and Pentium III Xeon processors' scalable performance. In addition to the Gigabit upgrade option, Dell PowerEdge servers include the Intel PRO/100+ Server Adapter as part of the standard configuration.
"As part of Dell's commitment to offer flexible PowerEdge server configurations, we offer both the Intel Fast Ethernet (10/100 Megabits per second) and Gigabit (1000 Megabits per second) Ethernet adapters," said Russ Holt, vice president and general manager of Workgroup and Departmental Servers for Dell's Enterprise Systems Group.
"The Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit adapter provides exceptional throughput and performance to meet the needs of Dell PowerEdge server customers."
"Rising demand from enterprise clients for intranet and Internet data has resulted in increased network traffic and server bottlenecks," said Greg Lang, vice president, Intel's Network Communications Group and general manager, Network Interface Division. "The combination of Dell's PowerEdge servers and Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit adapters delivers the network performance required by today's enterprises."
Intel continues to demonstrate its expertise in developing and manufacturing leading-edge networking silicon with Gigabit server adapters that deliver up to twice the performance of competitive offerings. With its latest driver release, Intel has achieved data throughput of 720 Mbps, a significant increase over any other Gigabit adapter in standard Ethernet test configurations. Intel 82542 Gigabit Ethernet Controller combines the media access controller, on-board RAM and a high-performance 64-bit PCI interface into a single, highly integrated device. In addition to performance, Intel server adapters support PCI Hot Plug for online serviceability, Link Aggregation for scalability, and Adapter Fault Tolerance for reliability.
The Intel PRO family of server, client, and mobile adapters provides flexible solutions designed to help network administrators deliver manageable, scalable computing across their networks. The PRO/1000 Gigabit Server Adapter is a key element in Intel's strategy to enable the transition to higher-bandwidth networking and help reduce total cost of ownership.
Intel, a chip maker, is also a manufacturer of computer, networking and communications products.
