INSURERS LEFT JOAN, 81, TO ROT IN FOREIGN HOSPITAL; EXCLUSIVE Coma OAP's records lost.

Byline: BY EUAN STRETCH

A SERIOUSLY-ill OAP was abandoned in a hospital on the Canary Islands after a disgraceful admin bungle by her insurer.

Joan Grant, 81, broke her ankle on a cruise and was admitted to a private clinic on Gran Canaria where she got pneumonia and fell into a coma.

But Travel & General stopped funding her care three weeks later, claiming she did not disclose preexisting conditions on her forms. Now it has been forced into a humiliating U-turn after admitting Mrs Grant's records did include her medical history and it lost them.

Son Grahame, 56, said: "She's been treated appallingly. I'm now looking into taking legal action."

Mrs Grant's sister Esther Bentley, 84, exposed the insurer's terrible error after finding a copy of her policy.

The OAP was finally flown home on Saturday and is in intensive care near her home in Upchurch, Kent. Travel & General said: "We're investigating."
