INSURANCE DEPARTMENT SCHEDULES PUBLIC HEARINGS ON INSURERS' PLANS TO RAISE RATES

 TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Dept. of Insurance will hold public hearings in Tallahassee on insurance company plans to raise homeowners' insurance rates, it was announced today.
 The hearing for Hartford Insurance Co. of the Midwest will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, July 13, Room 116 of the Larson Building, Tallahassee. Hartford is requesting a 13.8 percent increase in its homeowners' rates.
 State Auto Property and Casualty Insurance Co.'s hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 15, Room 116 Larson. State Auto is requesting an average increase of 29.5 percent.
 In April, Treasurer and Insurance Commissioner Tom Gallagher issued a rule ordering public hearings on insurance company plans to raise rates and cancel or non-renew insurance policies. The rule states that any rate filing that totals $1 million or more in additional premiums is subject to the hearing process. Public testimony is encouraged.
