INSTINET, BZW SIGN LETTER OF INTENT FOR THAMESWAY

 LONDON, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Instinet Corporation, the electronic brokerage subsidiary of Reuters Holdings PLC (NASDAQ: RTRSY), and Barclays de Zoete Wedd (BZW), the investment banking division of the Barclays Group, today announced they have signed a letter of intent for Instinet to acquire BZW's Thamesway Investment Services Limited brokerage unit.
 The consideration to be paid and the assets to be acquired are not material in the context of Reuters assets. The acquisition is expected to be completed by late September.
 Thamesway, an institutional "soft dollar" broker, provides its clients with global cross-border equity transaction services, and investment products such as research and information from other organizations.
 Instinet, a registered U.S.- and U.K.-based broker, provides sophisticated electronic trading strategies to the world's leading investment professionals.
