INNOVATIVE CONCEPTS GETS $2.1 MILLION TO DEVELOP IDM OSA.
Reliable data communications is the key to providing connectivity among airborne and ground platforms. Data connectivity has been crucial to Army Aviation's ability to send and receive targeting and situational awareness data in near real time. Innovative Concepts has long been a key supplier of tactical data communications to Army Aviation with the Improved Data Modem (IDM) V304(TM). The current IDM V304(TM) weighs approximately sixteen pounds and uses roughly 350 cubic inches of volume. The new solution is approximately 4.5 pounds and 96 cubic inches, saving greater than 66% of size and weight and greater than 75% of power.
Today's IDM V304(TM) resides on the Apache Longbow, Kiowa Warrior, Chinook, Blackhawk, and the new Armed Reconnaissance Helicopter (ARH). The challenge for the IDM OSA program is to provide an IDM software product that also runs on multiple hardware configurations and operating systems. A small Radio Interface Adapter (RIA) will connect the existing legacy radios to the Ethernet bus until the JTRS radios are fielded.
"IDM Technology(R) will continue to support the ever-changing needs of the Army Aviation community. IDM OSA is an excellent example of Innovative Concepts providing creative solutions to the warfighter," said John Epperly, General Manager of Innovative Concepts.
