INFRASONICS COMPLETES PURCHASE OF ADVANCED PULMONARY TECHNOLOGIES INC.
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Infrasonics Inc. (NASDAQ: IFRA) announced today that it has completed the purchase of the assets of Advanced Pulmonary Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of the only Food and Drug Administration-approved high frequency ventilator (respirator) for the treatment of Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). Jim Hitchin, Infrasonics' president, said, "We are extremely pleased that the people and products of APT will join with us in expanding our presence in the adult intensive care market. There are many opportunities for further expansion in this vital area. "Approximately 250,000 Americans will suffer each year from ARDS, which has also been called shock lung. The death rate for this condition is over 50 percent, a statistic that has not changed for decades. The unique high frequency adult ventilator developed by APT is the first device of its type to show an improvement in survival for these patients.
