INFRASONICS ANNOUNCES FDA APPROVAL FOR NEW VENTILATOR TECHNIQUE
SAN DIEGO, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Infrasonics (NASDAQ: IFRA) announced today that it has received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) permission to begin marketing a new device that provides apnea ventilation for babies and children.
Some babies in intensive care units, frequently forget to breathe for a number of reasons. The Infrasonics unit detects this occurrence and initiates ventilation stimulus to "remind" the baby to begin breathing. The stimulus is then slowly removed to encourage spontaneous breathing and the strengthening of respiratory muscles.
Jim Hitchin, Infrasonics' president, said, "This is another state- of-the-art product from our engineering group that gives our customers one more tool to better meet the needs of patients with respiratory diseases. We anticipate the product will provide better patient care while at the same time reduce the cost of a nurse having to stimulate babies to breathe."
Infrasonics is a public company with its common shares traded nationally Over the Counter under the NASDAQ symbol IFRA. The company manufacturers ventilators (respirators) for infants, children and adults, as well as other respiratory care products for use in hospitals and the home with worldwide sales to more than 40 countries.
