INFORMATION ACCESS DONATES PROCEEDS OF INFOTRAC 2000(TM) TAPE LEASE
PROGRAM'S ACADEMIC LIBRARY PROMOTION TO GLOBAL RELEAF
FOSTER CITY, Calif., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Between May 4 and June 30, some 1,200 academic libraries will receive a special environmental gift in their mailboxes from Information Access Co. (IAC). The packages will contain dogwood tree seedlings and a brochure explaining the benefits of the Expanded Academic Index(TM) database via the InfoTrac 2000 Tape Lease Program. Campuses that sign up for the program within the next two months also will see a portion of their payments donated to Global ReLeaf, a campaign of the American Forestry Association and America's oldest conservationist organization for trees and forests.
Expanded Academic Index(TM) is the premier database for undergraduate research. Recently enhanced, the database consists of some 1,500 academic journal titles, enabling college students, faculty and staff to access thousands of articles.
With the environment on the minds of many people today, especially the academic community, Todd Miller, senior manager, Library Automation, feels that this program is a natural fit. "In the course of looking for a way to promote our Expanded Academic Index(TM) product to a very conscientious customer, we at IAC found a way to promote and save our planet," said Miller.
"We are very pleased that Information Access Co. is working with Global ReLeaf to raise awareness on the importance of trees and forests," said Kurt Redenbo, Global ReLeaf's director of corporate development. "Information Access Co. also is providing a tangible benefit to environmental improvement through its contributions to Global ReLeaf's reforestation program in the U.S. With their help, and the support of other businesses and individuals, Global ReLeaf hopes to advance a greener and healthier planet."
The monies raised for this promotion will go directly to Global ReLeaf's Heritage Forests project. The Heritage Forests are special public lands, managed by a local, state or federal forestry agency. The forests have been selected by the staff of the American Forestry Association as lands where additional private-sector donations, such as IAC's, can create a new forest that would not be possible under existing public programs and budgets. Donations will pay for the trees and their planting, diversifying the species involved, selecting the sites and maintaining contracts with the public agencies.
The Library Automation group of IAC hopes to repeat the environmental program when promoting products in the future.
Information Access Co. is the world's leading supplier of periodical reference products and systems for public, academic and corporate libraries.
